PetAPalooza returns for the 11th year at Curtis Lumber
BALLSTON SPA, NY (NEWS10) – Crowds of people return to Curtis Lumber at Ballston Spa for the 11th annual PetAPalooza, a major local pet adoption effort.
“We are so excited to have everyone back. With everything going on with COVID, we’ve really missed all the shelters, staff and animals, ”said Jennifer Stickney, event organizer.
More than two dozen local animal shelters and rescues were in attendance, giving their animals a chance to meet their potential future family.
“You can come in, sit on one of our benches and interact with a cat like you would regularly at the shelter,” said Karli Russell, public relations coordinator for the Saratoga County Animal Shelter.
A wide variety of pets were available for adoption, including dogs, cats and rabbits.
“It’s really nice to come here and educate the rabbits. They are the third most abandoned pets behind cats and dogs, and they really make great pets, ”said Karen Sakolish, Hop on Home Hospitality Team member.
Even providers not offering adoption have shown their support. Benson’s Pet Center provides anyone who has adopted a free food bag, to help a new family and a new pet from the right paw.
“It’s a great event to get a lot of cats and dogs adopted. People had to make appointments to go to shelters, it wasn’t really the best way to have pets. So it’s a great way, they can come, meet the pets, see different rescue groups and engage with the community, ”said Moira Nowc, the CEO.
A community effort to help some of our four legged friends, encouraging anyone interested in adopting a pet.
“They make your life so much better. They take you out, dogs take you out walking and exercising, cats just give you that company, ”said Russell.
Especially since the return to normalcy continues to impact pets across the country.
“A lot of these animals that were adopted during COVID, people are going back to work and unfortunately we are seeing some of these animals coming back to shelters. So even today, it gives these animals a second chance to find their forever home, ”said Stickney.
The Curtis Lumber locations in upstate New York, along with their location in Vermont, also hosted PetAPalooza events on Saturday.
