Big Red wins third straight road game to start conference
MEADVILLE, Pa. (October 15, 2021) – The Denison University field hockey team won 2-1 on the road at Allegheny College on Friday night. Madeleine Chasse assisted on Denison’s two goals while Cary Mauck had a goal and an assist and Kristin kelley had the winning goal.
It was the third consecutive North Coast Athletic Conference victory for Denison, all three on the road. Denison improved to 6-5 overall and 3-0 in the NCAC while Allegheny fell to 5-7 and 0-4.
At the start of the second quarter, the Big Red got a pair of penalty corners in the first two and a half minutes of the period and were able to convert to the second as Hunt passed him atop the circle to Mauck, who took a few steps to his right and rolled the ball past the defense.
Maren Kraak made his only save of the match in the 24th minute, then in the 38th minute Denison fired three Maya Tumiwa, Caitlin ahearn and Abigail Hano, each of which was saved by Allegheny goalkeeper Hallie Reiger.
With 8:21 to go, Allegheny equalized with a goal after a penalty, but the Big Red were no slouch as less than a minute later Denison got his seventh penalty of the game.
From there, Hunt took the penalty corner and passed it to Mauck, who this time passed it to his left to Kelley, who finished with the score to give the Big Red a lead with 7:27 on the clock. .
In total, the Big Red outscored the Gators 14-3 on aggregate and 10-2 on penalties, and earned eight penalty corners compared to two for Allegheny.
After playing his first three conference games of 2021 on the road, Denison will now play three straight at home starting with a quick turnaround against Ohio Wesleyan University tomorrow, October 16 at 5:30 p.m. inside Deeds Field-Piper. Stadium.
