Animal rescue group seeking foster homes for northern dogs

While many were looking to cross off some necessary items from their shopping lists at the Cookstown Mall on Saturday, some may have left with more than expected.

Finding Homes – James Bay Pawsitive Rescue hosted a meet and greet and adoption event at Tanger Outlets. The animal rescue group is working to rehome abandoned animals from some of the northernmost regions of the province who often do not have the necessary veterinary care readily available.

“Most of our dogs are strays,” says Ashley Viger, the group’s meet and greet coordinator. “But some of them are also surrenders, for various reasons.”

Saturday was the second time the group had held an adoption event at the mall. Viger says it helps them reach more potential foster home seekers, which she says the group desperately needs.

“It’s a great location because we end up reaching a group of people that we wouldn’t necessarily reach at our other events,” says Viger. “So these are people who may not even know we exist.”
